Resumé

Summary of Experience

I am a first-year student in Virginia Tech's Master of Architecture 3 program with a bachelor's in psychology and art history from the University of Virginia. I have two internship experiences in the field through which I have gained valuable experience in residential and commercial architecture. I currently hold a position at a commercial and institutional glazing company where I have gained 320 AXP hours in construction-related employment and 320 hours in construction work.

During my first internship at Ratcliffe Architects, I gained an understanding of high-end residential architecture. I learned the fundamentals of AutoCAD and SketchUp and rendered and produced models for client meetings with an associate at this small firm.

I gained experience in commercial architecture as an intern at Vanguard Equities, where I interned directly for their in-house principal architect, Paul Van Riley. I reviewed proposed plans and elevations. I worked on a potential redevelopment plan to transform a shopping center in Roland Park, Maryland, into an apartment complex. I analyzed geological studies and social surveys from community members to determine the project's feasibility. I also analyzed the project proposal and proposed plans at the community meeting immediately following my internship.

As an employee at Accurate Weatherstrip & Screen Company Inc., a commercial and institutional glazing company, I produce scaled renderings of our projects. Specifically, I have done renderings of the Kelly Insurance Building in Annapolis, MD, the Bullis School Cafeteria Renovation in Potomac, MD and Burnt Hill Farms in Clarksburg, MD. Upon completion, I deliver each rendering to the job site. These drawings provide a unique way to engage with the project's progress and provide an additional source of graphic material for the company website. I have also had the opportunity to field bid invitations, conduct job site visits, measure and produce estimates and submittals, meet with glass and metal vendors, and learn the fundamentals of metal fabrication. .
